The Shop

people to Blacker Hall Farm Shop, or it could be the array of fresh
meat artistically displayed by their expert butchers. Whatever the
reason, the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, coupled with the fine
produce, offers a very cheerful shopping experience. The rural setting,
just outside the village of Calder Grove, is a short drive and quaint
escape from the bustle of cities and motorways”.

It is hard to believe how quickly a passing comment in a kitchen
soon became the reality of Blacker Hall Farm Shop. The comment,
led to discussion and soon steamrolled ahead until the derelict
400 year old, stone built barn was being converted and filled with
refrigerators, freezers and ovens. Prompted by the issues surrounding
sustainability of farming at the end of the 1990’s it was
a large gamble to take. Edward, with a recent degree in Agricultural
Business Management could see it as the only way forward. Guided
by his parents’ wisdom and beliefs, and the force and dedication
of the family the shop was born.
Today the business is still moving forward as quickly as it did
five years ago. A fully electronic till system installed in 2004,
allowing barcode scanning, has proved an efficient and invaluable
resource. Some interesting product information can be extracted
enabling the business to forecast popularity and demand. A recent
expansion has almost doubled floor space, incorporating a new till
layout and extended serve over delicatessen counter.
Working as a close team, each facet of the business has a unique
function in our supply chain. Raw ingredients are made into complete
products, they are prepared, some are cooked or baked, and others
are butchered, then skilfully presented and made available for you
to buy. In order for us to achieve this in a short time scale, to
guarantee fresh high quality products, we have a dedicated team
of special people.
